We should remember that back in the
early 1600s, it was considered to be impossible for the AIR to have any mass,
weight, or pressure. If it did, since the atmosphere was infinite, then
its pressure would have crushed everything!! The movements of the clouds,
the wind, and heat and cold were explained by relating them to various
mysterious forces. Even the birds could fly only because of the
levitation force!!!
